The 18th Annual Jardine Ski Run
February 27, 2005

18th Almost-Annual Jardine Ski Run

Men SkateForty skiers, a horde of fans and a corps of dedicated volunteers braved balmy temperatures on Sunday in the 18th running of the Bear Creek Council sponsored Jardine Ski Run. Mike Galloway posted the best time of the day – and the 6th best ever - on the 5 mile run to Timber Camp and back at 28 minutes and 12 seconds. The future came knocking as several teens and pre-teens skied politely past most of the adults in the pack.

The ski tips of kids were also flying on the Launch Pad 3K, the Sunny Corner 1K and the Pee Wee challenge known as Hearbreak Hill. Cooke City ringer Kersey Blackford, age 3, smoked the field for 1st place on Heartbreak Hill, with her lone competitor, Jackson Olliff (age 2) pulling out after peaking Launch Pad Heroesin the warmup. Duncan McIntosh, 7, brought home a blue ribbon in the Sunny Corner 1K with a time of 12:05. Julianna Olliff, 7, and Hayden Blackford, 6, tied for 2nd in a photo finish. Justin Koel, 11, led the field in the Launch Pad 3K with a time of 18:02. Second place honors went to Leyla Kirschner, 9, and the 3rd spot on the snow-podium went to Jay Bueter also age 9.

Humbling most of the adults in the final kid-category, the full Timber Camp 6K, Dillon Gruber, 13, grabbed the top prize at 33:40, followed by Ben Broadhead, 12, and Austin Smith, 13.
